Blog 6: How Can Your Major/Career Make the World a Better Place

Hello and good day to all! In this blog I am going to talk about how my career can affect and help the world. I believe that the best way architecture can help is by changing the way we design in order to reduce our carbon footprint in a world that is becoming more and more environmentally conscious. For example, concrete is one of the main building materials with the largest carbon footprint (it produces approximately 8% of the world's CO2!).
To change this, bioclimatic architecture is a good way to help, taking advantage of the natural resources available (such as sun and rain) the building adapts to the environment and reduces the expenditure of both energy and resources and thus be more environmentally friendly. While researching, I realized that in Chile there are several projects with bioclimatic strategies, and I would love to integrate more in this area in the future. Thanks for reading and stay safe!

This is the Transoceánica Building, a great example of sustainability located in Chile that focuses mainly on energy savings.
